Direct action movies with tricks

🎞️ Movie Tricks is a new card game from Chilifox Games - a trick-taking game in fact, as the name might suggest. 😉 However trick-taking is just one half of the story - there is also tableau-building! You play as film directors, trying to create the coolest action movie titles! 🎬
The core trick-taking is pretty standard: you play a card each starting with the lead director, and you have to follow suit if you can. Then you compare strengths, and draft cards from the market in that order. After the round, your just-played cards become the market for the next round. The player who played the weakest card gets a bonus card, which also sets the trump color for the next round. 👍
Cards you draft go into your tableau, in the matching column: either CGI, Props, Roles or Soundtrack. What you want to draft is influenced by the scoring rules, so let’s see! 😉
☝️ First, you score your highest valued card row - these are the movies themselves, which cleverly spell out funny titles if you read the 4 cards together.
✌ Second, you score the lowest valued column, basically the weakest category of your studio.
💥For CGI, each ‘Bang’ symbol is worth points, plus you score your last card. So you want to go out with a big one!
💼For Props you are collecting different icons to claim goal cards. The more icons the better, but goal cards are limited.
🦸♂️For Roles you want as many heroes and villains as you can, but if the two amounts match you get bonus points.
🎵Finally, Soundtrack is a majority scoring. Whoever has the most musical notes scores the most, and the least gets nothing.
💬You play until the deck of bonus cards runs out and sum up points. At first the trick-taking might seem loose, as you are happy with any card you can claim, but later on you really want specific cards to boost up your possible score.😉 I think the end result is a really great card game with a clever and thematic scoring system. 😊 I especially love the silliness of the titles that get spelled out.
We had movies like:
“The Silent Mission: Epic City”
or “The Cursed Man: Savage Revenge” 😂
Such a great thematic touch!
Oh, and by the way, there is a working 2-player variant! 🥰
