Dice drafting, beer and magic

🎲⛏️ Dice Miner is a really cool dice drafting game. I actually never saw this sold in retail where we live so we were excited to pick this up at Gen Con. I love colorful and custom dice and this game has a ton of them. 🤩

The game has 60 dice. Each round 20 will be randomly drawn and distributed on top of a sloped cardboard mountain. Then everyone grabs dice from the mountain in turn order (keeping the face value) until there are no more. Then you tally up your score from the dice, keep them and reroll them, then it’s on to a new round! The game is played for 3 rounds, which means all 60 dice will be rolled and picked until the game’s end. At the end you add together the scores from the 3 rounds to determine the winner. 🏆

⬜: White dice have pip values, which you use to build straights. You get points according to the sum of the pip values, but only for straights starting with a 1.
🟨: Yellow dice have gems on them. You get as many points as there are gems, however the one with the most gems gets double.
🟦: Blue dice have magic symbols on it. These don’t give points but allow you to reroll your dice before scoring.
⬛: Black dice have cave-in and dragon symbols on them, which are minus points.
🟩: Green dice can show pickaxe or shield symbols, that turn your cave-in or dragon penalties into positive points. Having more of these also multiplies those points. There are also chest symbols which allow you to keep die faces between rounds.

🍺: The beer mug is a face that all of the dice share. If you have one of these you can use it on your turn. You reroll the die and give it to an opponent. This might help them, however during this turn you get to pick 2 dice instead of one with more flexibility.

I wasn’t sure how this would play at 2p, but it all works pretty good. 👍 I like how you keep dice after each round so rounds get bigger, and it is interesting that you get 30 dice from the 60, while in a 4p game you would only get 15. The beer mug mechanic also gives you more agency, instead of just being at the mercy of the turn order. 🙃
