Day 4 recap

Day 4 recap

SPIEL has ended. Sunday was surprisingly good. We found many empty tables and most of the crowds of Saturday were gone. So we managed to play some stuff again ๐Ÿ˜Š, also did a last sweep of every hall to see if we missed something - or perhaps in search for last minute discounts. ๐Ÿ˜… The saddest part is when people start dismantling their booths and put the demo games away. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Let's check some games!

๐Ÿบ The Wolves

I really wanted to try this one. An area control game where everyone plays as a wolf pack; hunting, building dens and recruiting lone wolves. The unique twist is in its action selection: you have to flip two-sided tiles matching the terrain where you want to act as a cost. On their other side there are other types of terrain, so your options keep changing.

I wasn't sure about buying, though the table presence is exceptional. The demo left us with somewhat poor impressions - it ended after the first scoring which we reached after literally 2 turns. So we barely did any actions. Even if it was a full length game, would it be over in 8 turns? ๐Ÿค” Maybe because we played with 5 playersโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ‘Š Vengeance Roll and Fight

This is a roll and write in which you play as an action hero, storming the den of the villain, beating up enemy henchmen and fighting the boss himself. It has a kind of speed element as you can take dice from a common pool if you already allocated some of your dice. You can activate abilities and items and try to move around and defeat everyone in the most optimal way.

๐ŸŒš Violet and the Grumpy Nisse

We heard about this game before SPIEL and it sounded really intriguing. True hidden gem potential! It's a two-player trick-taking game with a lot of interesting additions. We ordered the game immediately after learning the rules (unfortunately their copies for sale haven't arrived in time) - so we will cover this game in more detail later.

There are 2 demos of upcoming games we were ecstatic to play on Sunday:  Unconscious Mind and Books of Time, but I really want to highlight them in their own posts, so you can look forward to those ๐Ÿ˜
