My Father’s Work was one of our more anticipated games from Kickstarter.🤩
It has a similar macabre theme as the board game ’Abomination’, the kind where you think: „Why has no one ever done this before?”🤔

You inherit a huge estate from your late father where you find his journal 📖 with all sorts of crazy sketches and his planned masterwork: an invention so brilliant and mad that it is not achievable within a single lifetime – be it immortality, a time machine or teleportation. 🙀 You decide to continue his work.
You play as a mad scientist 👨‍🔬conducting shady experiments to gather knowledge - to be able to do these you will need all kinds of ingredients. You have a bunch of servants that can help gather these and do the dirty work for you. You are also expanding your estate with new buildings and rooms that will help your endeavors.

Like I mentioned your father’s masterwork is not easy to achieve. Here is where the best idea of the game comes to the stage: you play through 3 generations during the game. After you die, your offspring inherits some of your things. You will discard most resources and cards between generations, but the recorded knowledge in your journal and the upgrades of the estate get passed down. Meaning even though you start almost from scratch in the new generation, you will be able to achieve even more – and hopefully by the end of the third generation you will be able to invent your great-grandfathers masterwork.💡

The game requires an app to play that is not ready yet, so we can only provide our first impressions now, which we got by trying the game with a web-based beta version. There are some unique ideas here. You will be making decisions with the help of the app during the game and those decisions will follow you and influence the whole playthrough. You also get to pick 1 out of 3 story boxes at the beginning which gives you an overarching story, but all of these can be replayed and every time it could play out differently. My Father’s Work is a euro-game but with a very strong thematic flavor.
We enjoyed our first play but can’t wait to try the real experience with the app – with music and narration🥰
