Contract fulfillment made right

Contract fulfillment made right

We did it! We got 🪓 Woodcraft to the table too. After seeing so many posts and positive impressions about it lately, we really wanted to finally play. 😅 And of course it did not disappoint. For now just some early impressions:

The core of the game is fulfilling contracts to gather victory points. Normally that is nothing to write home about, but the way you get the resources to fulfill those contracts is what makes the game fun to play! The puzzle of the game comes from 2 elements:

🕛 Action wheel: this is an intriguing evolution of the action wheel from Praga Caput Regni. Basically actions that don’t get chosen that often get more and more valuable to choose. What action is the best to pick might change depending on the rotation of the wheel at any time.

🎲 Dice manipulation: you don’t really roll the dice, they are just counters that symbolize your types and amount of wood. You can saw, glue or splice your dice to change their pip values, combining or dividing them. These are all free actions so you can play around with them, and give a lot of freedom in gathering what you need - and fit the theme really well!

The game is very tight and short. It ends after 14 rounds, which means you might only get 14 actions, though there is a way to get a few bonus ones. However doing all those free actions as well means you will feel as if you did a lot more. There is a lot to do and upgrade in your workshop but you will really have to focus on your strategy because you can’t do everything.

💬 We have to get back to this game soon to explore possible strategies. The rules are not very complex, yet playing it for the first time we had a few AP moments. 😅 Sometimes I wished I had just one more action before the income phase! I am not sure yet where Woodcraft lands on our Suchy toplist - I would love to do a Suchy week where we play every game from him one after another. Woodcraft is a fun one, just like the other Suchy titles we have. 😍
