Co-op logical deduction with tile-laying
Let's talk about 🏵️Gardeners!
It's a coop tile-laying game with a few layers to it. Basically you are using tiles as a team to build a 6x6 garden that obeys every placement rule - these are ever-changing whims of the King. Let’s see what makes this game so unique!
At the start the first player draws a rule-card. When you first assemble the 6x6 grid, it has to meet the requirement of this card. And here is the first twist 😮 - only that player sees the actual rule; all the others see is the back of the card, that only hints at the type of rule. And of course there is another twist: you cannot talk with each other during the game. 😅 So you have to consider the actions and reactions of the players to deduce the constraints.
If you first finish successfully, then the next round begins. The next player draws a rule card that only they can see. Now you keep the 6x6 tile grid, but have to re-arrange it in a way so that it not only matches the new constraint but the previous one as well!
You continue this until you have to draw the 4th rule card. In this case you get to discard the oldest card, so you only ever have 3 rules at a time. Let me tell you, 3 is more than enough! 😂 Cards you discard this way will count as points at the end.
But how long do you play? Okay, it’s time for the final twist: Gardeners is a real-time game! 🙀 You play until the sand flows through the hourglass, which is 15 minutes. Then you see how well you did.
It can be quite hectic as you try to understand rules without any verbal information, but we enjoy this concept a lot!🥰 Rearranging the garden is particularly difficult. You can’t just break everything down because there is no time to always completely rebuild, and you always know there were sections that were important for previous rounds, that you cannot easily break open. Often you will know for sure what the rule is, but sometimes it’s more ambiguous. It could be a lot of things. We also sometimes keep remembering and obeying rules that we actually discarded rounds ago. 😂 Definitely will practice more!
