Character creation as a game

In Roll Player the whole game is basically creating a character, as if you were starting a role-playing game. To do this players draft dice each turn that they allocate to different attributes. You are also buying items, skills and traits to build your character in a certain way. If all of the dice slots are filled the game is over and it’s time for final scoring. 🏆

I love this game so much probably because I have played so many RPGs before and I really like this theme. I also have a soft spot for dice allocation (probably my favorite mechanism). So those combined mean Roll Player is awesome! ✊

The dice that players draft are randomly pulled from a bag each turn and rolled. At the beginning you randomly get assigned a race, a class (giving you a special ability), a backstory and an alignment card. These give you your end game goals: What values should your attributes be at the end? What colored dice should be in some spots? What alignment are you aiming for? Even if some of the dice you get aren’t the best, you have ways of modifying these. Placing dice in your attribute rows actives certain abilities that for example swap dice you already placed, flip dice to the opposite face or add/substract from the face value. There are also skills that help you with this.

Skills and traits adjust your alignment, which you have to watch out for. Skills are abilities that can be used multiple times, traits give you end game scoring options. You can buy weapons that give you passive bonuses, while armor gives you more points the more you collect of the same set.

All in all, Roll Player is brilliant and a blast to play every time. The expansion enhance the experience even more. We definitely recommend this game. 🎖👌
