Build your very own miniature city

Build your very own miniature city

I have been eyeing 🌃Tokyo Highway for a while, and seeing the 🌈Rainbow City version at last year’s SPIEL was the final push we needed to get it. We don’t have many dexterity games and we don’t play them often, but the table presence of this one is just really next level. đŸ€© You will be building roads suspended by columns, criss-crossing around buildings that are laid out at setup. It all looks so good!

I want to start with the best aspect of Tokyo Highway. 👉In most dexterity games you build something and play until it all comes down tumbling, so often you never have the satisfaction of seeing a completed project. In Tokyo Highway however the goal is to place all 10 of your vehicles. 🚗 If something falls down you do incur a penalty, but play goes on so at the end you always get a spectacular miniature city. 😊

🧐Each turn you will place a new road piece, with its ends placed on two columns. There are some rules about correct placement that I won’t describe in detail, but most notably the heights of the columns can only change by a single piece at most - so you can’t do steep inclines. On most turns you just place the road and that’s it, however if you manage to cross above or below an opponent’s road for the first time, you also get to place a vehicle. 🚚 Your roads will never connect with other players’ so you always know which roads belong to you.

Basically that’s it! A race to place 10 vehicles, with a focus on player interaction, as where people build will always influence your decisions. Additionally there is a “Mission” mode in which specific placements earn you bonus points, so the player with the most points wins at the end. 🏆

A cool feature of 🌈Rainbow City are the rubber pads on the bottom of roads, and how the cards are also made out of rubber so things don’t slip easily. So there is less emphasis on dexterity and more on strategic building. 😉 Awesome little cityscapes guaranteed after each play! đŸ™ïž This game is an easy recommendation for basically everyone.
