Become the hero of the reef restoration project
❓Did you know that despite covering less than 1% of the ocean floor, coral reefs are the home to about 25% of all marine species? 🪸
The Board & Dice team set highlighting the importance of eco-friendliness as their goal this year! ♻️ As part of their initiative and as a support for the @4ocean project they are devoting their upcoming release to the topic of saving coral reefs and they are bringing a fun light-weight euro game to us in the process! It is called Reef Project and you might have heard of it before - it was first released at Gen Con this year, and lucky for us, it was also included in the surprise delivery we got from them last week (alongside with a bunch of cool eco-friendly souvenirs), so we’ll definitely talk about it more in the coming weeks. 😉
Reef Project is the 2nd B&D release this year after Windmill Valley. 😍 This lightweight euro game tackles the topic of environment protection, or more specifically water pollution and the restoration of coral reefs.
The game is centered around a group of islands. 🏝️You and your fellow environmental activists will be hopping island to island, trying to clean ocean sectors from pollution, hire the perfect crew for your tasks, discover the coral reefs and fulfil as many missions as possible, until one of you reaches 45 points! Then you tally up your points to see who did the best. 🏆
We really enjoy Reef Project! It’s light but there is always a fun array of actions that you can do, so while turns are snappy, they are also meaningful. There is also some potential for combos! 😊 One of the most important mechanisms is area majority, but since it is not the only source of points, it also works nicely with 2 players. There are mission cards that drip-feed you with short term goals so you aren’t just randomly sailing around between islands, and there is a constant struggle with resource management.
We’ll be back with more soon, but until then, enjoy the beautiful artwork of the game! 🥰
