An immersive investigation

You probably know we love escape and detective games - I've told it many times before. 😄 So when a new detective game series pops up we are immediately intrigued! There is a new one called 📂Guilty from @iellogames with two titles. We just played the first, ‘Guilty: Houston 2015’ which we enjoyed immensely! 😊

Let's start with the most important question: what kind of detective game is this? 🤔 This is the type where you get cards as you play which you can choose to investigate, meaning you can flip them over to get more information - ☝️ but in exchange you lose time, so you won't be able to look at every single card in the game; instead you'll have to prioritize and only follow up on leads that you think are important.

Now normally I am not a fan of this approach as it often comes down to luck whether you find the essential information. In Guilty it worked out pretty well however, because of the deck of cards that symbolizes the passage of time. ⏳ You always draw a card when you are prompted to do so, and it's not just about when the deck runs out. These time cards can have additional story snippets that really make it feel like you are part of the story in a living-breathing world! 😊

In ‘Houston 2015’ you play as a detective who gets a call because a senator's daughter who is serving a sentence is found dead in a prison. You only have time from 10PM until 11AM to get to the bottom of the case and answer question at a press conference in the morning. There are many leads and several potential suspects, so you need to be cunning and watch out for every little detail! 🕵️‍♀️

Overall the case is interesting, the illustrations are nice and all the texts are well-written. But what we particularly enjoyed is that there are other side activities in the detention center going on that you also get questions about - even though the main investigation itself is quite layered too. When you read a card you aren't spoon-fed information either, so you need to talk everything through and make theories as you try to deduce what happened. It was an awesome time playing and we already can't wait to dive into ‘Guilty: Monaco 1955’! 😁
