A war between vegetables

🍅 Garden Rush (aka. Zoff am Zaun in German ) is a light-hearted duel game - a battle between two neighbouring gardens that are waging war against each other. It’s all about simple tile-placement and pattern matching in a race for points. 🙃
The magnetic cover of the box itself opens up to serve as the gameboard, showing the two gardens and the hedge dividing them. The bottom of the box is used as the score track. 😮 The setup couldn’t be simpler: you just put all the thick wooden tiles into the bag, draw some tiles to put on the hedge and that’s it - you can start the puzzly fight! 😁
The gameflow is straightforward - 👉 you either take a tile and place it into your garden, or you harvest some of your placed tiles to earn points.
To plant, you just choose a vegetable tile from the hedge and place it on any empty space of your grid. 🧐 However if you choose the same column as where you took it from, you place it on its double-vegetable side, otherwise you have to flip it to its single-vegetable side. There are 4 tool spaces on your grid: whenever you cover these up you also do their special action. 👍
To harvest, you have to have vegetables in the correct configuration. The board shows the specific forms and number of tiles needed - each vegetable requires different shapes. 😉 When harvesting, you remove used single tiles, or flip double-tiles onto their single-side. You earn points according to the number of tiles used and track them on the scoring board. This is interesting because if you manage to land on a tool spot, you get to activate a visible action on your board. ☝️ You also jump over your rival’s scoring meeple, making timing and watching their moves much more important.
That is the gist of it! You play until you reach 40 points, or the tiles run out. As an additional module you can introduce more tool-tiles that get mixed into the bag - these are either new special abilities, or useless molehills to block your opponent.
💬 The game was a surprise delivery from @asmodee_germany, and we might have dismissed it otherwise based on the looks. But actually it is really fun and a quick family-weight duel game with top-notch components! ☺️
