A playground of Gods

A playground of Gods

⚖️ Veiled Fate is unlike any other game we own. It’s part social deduction, part strategy - quick to play, yet it feels epic thanks to the evocative art and incredible table presence. 🙂

In the game, you are a God with a hidden offspring - a Demigod walking among mortals. Your goal is to make your Demigod the most renowned in the human realm. But the other Gods have their own offspring to champion… and they won’t hesitate to hinder whoever gets in their way. That’s why secrecy, bluffing, and misdirection are quintessential. 😁

A game unfolds over 3 Ages. On your turn, you take up to 2 actions, moving any of the 9 Demigods on the map. Yes, all 9, as they are all shared figures on the map! You are a God after all, so you have the power to influence anything and anybody! Most often, you’ll send them onto Quest cards, which have multiple reward slots. Whenever you Quest, you secretly play a Fate card 🃏 to sway the outcome.

Once a Quest is filled up, the Fate cards are shuffled and revealed (with a few random ones thrown in). Depending on the balance of feathers vs. scorpion tails, one side of the Quest resolves - increasing or decreasing Demigods’ Renown. 🧐

There are of course more effects and nuances to the gameplay, but this is the core loop. It sounds simple (and it is simple!) - but it is ingenious really. 😊 Every time someone touches a mini, it sparks suspicion.  Could it be theirs? Is it a bluff? 🤔

Table talk adds to the fun, giving you social cues that may help with deduction. It’s constantly hilarious when you accuse someone of helping a certain Demigod… only to realize you have no idea. 😄 At first, the game feels a bit random in the first Age, but as it progresses, things begin to fall into place. Slowly your Demigod edges into a winning position, and you start forming hunches about who belongs to whom. The end-of-Age votes also do a great job of shaking up the game state.

An incredible game overall, and truly unique. 🥰
We really enjoyed it with 4 players, but it actually works really well with only 2 players too if you integrate the expansion - more about that soon! 😉
