A mix of Uno and dexterity games

What do you get if you mix dexterity games with Uno? High Rise Penguins ‼️ 🐧

At least kind of, that’s the impression I got and you’ll see why shortly. This is a small box game from @alleycatgames with quite possibly the most adorable penguins ever. Just check out those illustrations and meeples! 🥹

Although you will be building a tower and giving your best not to topple it all, High Rise Penguins is also a card-shedding game. 🧐 You start out with 10 circle-shaped cards and you want to play them all sooner than the other players. If the tower falls, then the player with the least cards wins.

To play a card, it has to match either the symbol or the color of the card already on the stack. You place your card on top, then do whatever the symbol says:

🏔️If it’s an iceberg, you have to place little cardboard walls on top of the card, raising the height of the stack.
🐧If it’s a penguin, you have to place a penguin in the topmost room of the tower. Potentially multiple penguins could go in a room, but the place is very small!
💎If it’s a crystal, you have to place 1 or 2 crystals in the room with the fewest crystals.
There are 3 more types of cards reminiscent of Uno, either swapping the direction of play ♻️, skipping the next player 🚫 or making the next player draw 2 cards ➕.

I’ve found this game super hard!  (Either that or I am just really ham-fisted 😅). The card and cardboard walls are feather light, so even the tiniest of mistake when placing cards or penguins on top could make it all crumble. But that makes it all the more enjoyable when you are watching other players take their turn. 😄

The quality is great with holofoil cards, crystals, cute meeples and little cardboard glaciers. If you enjoy dexterity games, this is a fun game packed into a really tiny box! 🙃
