A dice-chucking duel of monsters
🦖King of Tokyo: Duel is a 2-player version of the beloved monster battle royale game. The core of the game remains mostly the same: 🎲 rolling lots of dice and rerolling to try to get what you need, then use the resulting die faces to do actions. Of course fitting for a duel game there are now multiple victory conditions to strive for in a tug-of-war manner. 🤼
🏆You can win by depleting the health of your opponent. 💔
🏆You can win by completely pulling either the fame or destruction marker to its end position.
🏆Or by pulling both tokens at once into your “spotlight” zone.
Playing is simple: 🧐 roll your 6 dice up to 3 times then do what their symbols say. The paw 👊 symbol damages the enemy, while heart ❤️ symbols heal you. The exclamation mark ❕ is a special ability unique to your chosen monster. The fame ⭐ and destruction 🏢 symbols let you move on the tug-of-war tracks, but you need at least 3 matching symbols. Finally, the lightning ⚡ symbol gives you energy that you can use to purchase cards.
Power cards 🃏 are a fun mechanic of the game. If you have the energy you can buy multiple cards in a turn. These are either one-time effects or ongoing abilities that change some rules for you. But additionally they also might give you Buzz tokens which are tokens that you can lay over one of the two tracks of the board, giving bonuses if a token moves on it, or they could also shorten or lengthen the path!
💬Every match is a quick and fun explosive duel. Ultimately everything hinges on the dice rolls, so how much you enjoy the game depends on your preference for dice randomness. We personally prefer more strategy but if you enjoy the original King of Tokyo or games like Dice Throne, then this will be an amazing time as well. The asymmetric monster abilities and the deck of power cards also help keep things interesting. 😉
Let’s not forget about the overall presentation! 🎨 The artwork is amazing as you can see. 🤩 I really love the comic-like illustrations, the bursting colors and the monster-genre references and puns.
