A campaign expansion for Scythe?

Scythe is a divisive game. ⚖️ An economical engine-builder optimization euro disguised as a war game. Back when we first played it we were surprised how much we liked it, especially as 2p was generally criticized as not good. (Although the game excels with more players, 2p is very much enjoyable!) We were looking for an opportunity to play the game again after some time and Rise of Fenris was the perfect opportunity to do so! 😊

It is an expansion to Scythe, but not just any expansion! 🧐 It actually adds an 8-scenario legacy story campaign to the game that you can replay. So even though you will unlock new content as you go, modify your empire with special abilities and rules, and shape the story of your campaign, it is all fully resettable - meaning you won’t destroy ✂️ any components.

So how does this all work in practice? 🤔

For each scenario you will read through the story and set up the game potentially with some special rules. After the game is over someone is determined the winner as always, but that doesn’t necessarily help you. Only whoever wins the 8th final scenario of the campaign will be crowned as the winner! 🏆

However the money you gather during the game will be added to your wealth. 💰 This is an out-of-game currency, as you will always start scenarios with your default coin setup. Wealth can be used to buy perks that give you a temporary leg up, or buy mech mods or infrastructure mods that permanently modify the way you play. So if you consistently win more games, you will have more wealth to get ahead of the competition. 😉

After some scenarios you can also vote on how the campaign will proceed, so the campaign can branch off in small ways. But the best is of course when you get to new tuckboxes and punchboards and get to add some new stuff to the game. 🥰 What they all hold you ask? Well I cannot spoil them, but the description lists a lot of things like new plastic miniatures, tiles, custom dice and loads of wooden and cardboard components. 😮

If you aren’t into long-winded campaigns, you can add the new things to your normal games as 11 different modules and enjoy it all like that.
