A big challenge in a small box

I’ve been wanting to try 🛡 Tiny Epic Defenders for a long time. I am a big fan of tower or wave defense style games, and this one does exactly that. Unending hordes are attacking the capital city and its surrounding regions and it is up to you and your allies to ward them off long enough to finish off the epic foe and stop the onslaught. ⚔️

Tiny Epic Defenders is a pandemic-style co-op game. It is also quite abstract - you are not directly fighting monsters, it is more about regions getting damaged and you repairing them. That is not a problem of course, but you should be aware of that. 👍 The art and thematic abilities do add some immersion though. 🙃

In a game round you are drawing cards from a deck which contains player activation cards and monster cards. Monster cards will attack regions unless you are there to defend them. Drawing a player activation card means you get to act and spend action points to move around, secure regions, use different abilities and so on.

When the deck runs out, the round is over - you will add a new horde card, reshuffle and start a new round. This means you will get to know what cards are in the deck and can prepare yourself for what is to come, but also with some surprises sprinkled in. 🤔 There are also dire enemies that will be added - these are harder to fend off and have unique effects that can throw a wrench in your plans.

When a round is over and there are no more cards to add, you reveal the final epic foe. 👿 This foe enters play and you have to use your actions to deal damage to it and reduce its health to zero to win. Of course they have special abilities that will make this hard to achieve.

There is an insane amount of variability in this tiny yet epic box. 🤩 You get 10 characters, 6 dire enemies, 6 epic foes and 9 artifact cards, each with their own unique effects. Also the region cards are double sided, each side having a different action you can take on it. So you see, no two games will be the same. 😁
